what Jesus commanded us to do until he comes again, what Jesus did and said at the Last Supper becomes present. We can even say that we become partakers of his Last Supper. It is as if time were done away with. Our Lord’s sacrifice on the Cross is now present. We join him at table, we become his “contemporaries”, we are in the Upper Room. Yes, the Eucharist is the presence of the Lord. However, past and present are not the only dimensions of the sacraments; the sacraments also point to the future.
